2015 Monticellobration

All day event

Full steam ahead! The 14th annual Monticellobration festivities are quickly approaching! The event is growing in offerings this year as Main Street collaborates with the Railroad Museum during their Railroad Days celebration on September 19th and 20th. From Nelson Crossing, to Wabash Station and around the Courthouse Square, fun, food, and family activities can be enjoyed throughout the weekend.

On Saturday the 19th you’ll find us celebrating the “Golden Age” of the railroad. We’re looking at life during the late 1890’s through 1930’s. So be on the lookout for hobos, newsboys, flappers and maybe even a gangster! Our downtown restaurants will be converted into 1920”s Speak Easy, complete with ladies and gents ready to serve you. Out on the street, the lively music of the Jim Markum Band as well as the Donna Weghorst and Friends Band during the day, along with swing dancing. Test your abilities on the rail road hand cart. Learn who won the contest for our first ever Little Miss and Mr Engineer! Of course you don’t want to miss Dr. Cochran’s scheduled return visit to peddle his famous elixir. Try out the Pump Rail Car Ride right on the street. Don’t miss our perennial favorites; “Paint The Town” squares by the Monticello Area Arts Council, and the Kid’s Corner. . From the Wabash Station leading to the downtown you’ll want to check out The Sundowners Car Show and an exhibit of Monticello’s school Box Car trains. On the Courthouse lawn, a structure straight out of Hooverville, will be presented by local 6th graders.

On Saturday if you stay around to the evening hours you will enjoy the music of Bad Medicine and Feudin Hillbillies! Make sure you make take a trip out to the Rail Museum at Nelson’s Crossing and partake in the parade of the greatest engines ever made, ride the rails and enjoy a grand variety of other events on both days. Downtown Sunday out on the Courthouse Square the local praise band from Crossroads Church will be there from 1 – 4pm. Join an Ice Cream Social out on the street at the same time, sponsored by Kirby Medical Hospital!

Monticellobration 2016

10:00am - 10:30pm

Historic Courthouse Square in Downtown Monticello, Monticello, IL, 61956

The 17th annual Monticellobration will take place on Saturday, September 17th around Historic Courthouse Square in downtown Monticello.

RAIN OR SHINE, THE SHOW WILL GO ON!

Don't let the forecast of possible wet weather dampen your spirits.  Monticellobration will take place this weekend come rain or shine!

This family favorite fun event kicks off at 10:00am and celebrates all things Monticello. Bring the family and friends downtown to enjoy restaurant cookouts, listening (and dancing if you feel like it) to live swing and jazz music featuring Jim Markum Swing band from 10am - 1pm and the Chicago area band the Night Hawks from 1pm - 4pm. Of course, our restaurants will be cooking out during the lunch hour so you can enjoy local dining while visiting over 50 vendors situated around the square. Check them out from 10am - 4pm.

Kids can Paint the Town through the Monticello Area Arts Council or enjoy lots of activities in Kids Korner-Joyful Bubbles, the Train Pump cars, and more! They can also release their inner artist as they paint a square on Washington Street.

Once again, Sundowners will be hosting an All Things Wheels car show.If you love cars, then you will enjoy checking out these classic cars being showcased on Independence Street right off the square.

We are still celebrating the golden era of the railroad, specifically the 1920’s & 30’s. Be sure to take the train from Wabash Station to the Railway Museum, where they will be celebrating Railroad Days on Saturday and Sunday.  You just might see a flapper or two walking down the street.  If you can’t catch the train, there will be a free shuttle provided by the Monticello Chamber of Commerce from 9:30 am until 5pm to ferry people from location to location.

Monticellobration daytime fun goes from 10am - 4pm. The evening bands start at 6:30pm featuring hometown favorite Bad Medicine from 6:30pm - 8:30 pm and then the regional favorite, Feudin Hillbillies from 8:30pm - 10:30pm.

If you are interested in being a vendor, download the Vendor Application. Vendor spaces are handled on a first come first serve basis.
